v&i weddings styled – no. 1

Thanks to a nearly predictable indian summer every year, wedding season in the Bay Area generally runs well into October. And if your calendar is looking anything like ours as of late, you’re about eyeball deep in save the dates and bridal shower invitations. With all the fanfare and “I dos,” a girl sure can get into a bind over what to wear. After all, there are only so many ways you can dress your LBD up and down before you grow uninspired at the mere sight of it {which is where we come in}.

Truth be told, we’re no experts. We’ve had bad closet days and we’ve had good ones, but with some practice and the 1,353,542 weddings we’ve attended since we graduated from flower girl status we’ve come to learn a thing or two about navigating the sometimes ambiguous dress codes you find on event invitations. Snappy casual? Creative black tie? With our mini-series on wedding style, {part of our self-proclaimed wedding week here on the blog} we’ve got you covered.

With that, we present you with our take on “casual chic” (see also: snappy casual, dressy casual, etc.). While definitions can vary, our best one sentence description of this murkily defined dress code is to dress as if you were meeting your significant other’s parents for a nice lunch. Stylish separates certainly can work, but for us, nothing beats an easy, feminine dress with a generous cut in a fabulous tone. It makes a great alternative to your LBD and in a solid color can easily become a great staple in your wardrobe. Add in some punches of color and pattern with a fabulous clutch and a pair of sensibly-heeled heels and it instantly feels special enough for any big day.

Jewelry wise, we recommend keeping it easy and light – especially if you’re going more punchy with the color. A sweet pair of studs and an equally dainty bracelet {like our Open Bow posts and Metallic Paillette Bracelet} will give you some nice sparkle and texture without competing with the rest of your ensemble.
