more than leprechauns

What with it being Leap Day and all, a holiday so strange that it is only celebrated once every four years, and only in century years that are divisible by 400 {so 2100 will not have leap years – weird, we know}, we figured it was timely to pay homage to some lesser known holidays. After all, here at Viv&Ingrid one of our favorite things to do is to celebrate. Birthdays, anniversaries and even the unlikely, federal holidays only elementary school children get off {Presidents Day – we’re talking to you} all give us an excuse to share food, company and gifts with people we care about. But, there are some months that don’t quite fulfill our celebratory needs – a girl can only go so long without some cake and some bubbly. March, for one, is not exactly overflowing with nationally-recognized holidays, at least not the type that Hallmark makes a card for. So, in the name of the celebratory spirit, we have compiled a list of some of the more obscure holidays in March, replete with some thoughtful gift ideas for those near and dear to you.

March 1

National Pig Day

Sorry, but we do not yet carry mini-pigs {although we are working on it – where there is a strong, mini-pig will there is a way}. Instead, we would be happy to assist you in pigging out in honor of this special day. Bag of Butter Baked Goods Strawberry  Marshmallows, anyone? And might we also suggest flipping through this?

March 2

Employee Appreciation Day

This is the perfect time to let all of your worker bees know how much their hard work means to you. In our experience, work becomes almost preferable to the constant and uncontrollable use of facebook/pinterest/celebrity gossip blogs when your desk is filled with darling notebooks and Swarovski Crystal-capped pencils.

March 3rd

I Want You to be Happy Day

“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” – Marcel Proust

Our requirements for March 3rd: champagne, macaroons of the french variety and a Lifetime movie marathon.

March 4th

Panic Day

We are no stranger to the concept of panic. There are days when our office resembles more of a pen of headless chickens than it does a workplace {see also: February 13, the day before Mother’s Day and the entire month of December}. For moments like this, our road to sanity is found through a little candlelight, a few less-than-educational magazines and a warm bath with some Saipua soaps to scrub the day away.

March 20th

Alien Abduction Day

Outside of a tinfoil helmet, we don’t really have any gift ideas for this one. It’s just a bucket full of funny. But to be on the safe side, be a little extra careful.

March 21st

Fragrance Day

If you have ever visited Oxford Hall, you know that fragrance is something we take very, very seriously. Even our mailmen and -women take pause to appreciate the sweet smell of our shop. We’ve heard from customers some of our more deliciously-scented treasures have a similar effect on random, attractive passerby. To do a little bewitching of your own, might we suggest snagging one or two of Royal Apothic’s extracts? They’re small enough to pop into your purse but heady enough to turn that comely pedestrian into a potential beau.

March 30th

I Am In Control Day

The foil to panic day {see also: February 15th, the second half of May and January 1st}.

Happy celebrating everyone!
